From an old Italian saw. The parts dealer is a pain in the ass to deal with. After waiting on them for quite a while I gave up and attempted a fix... which broke apart when I tried to install it. Worked fine for other parts that had broken but not for this one since it’s under tension. Unless I can find some way of securing it it looks like I have to do more hounding at the dealer... If that happens it would probably be faster just to design and fabricate a new part myself. They’re that pathetic.
So anyone have any idea how to get this together with some reasonable strength? If it hadn’t broken right at the arm I’d just screw the damn thing down where it belongs...
The attempted fix. Bored two holes with a Dremel, which seemed to melt the plastic together, then tried to fill the holes with glue... but because of the angle it evidently didn’t get in deep. I’m just glad it came apart now instead of while it was in use.

No room for zipties. And so would I but I hate dealing with the dealer and want to check for other options first.

You might be able to bypass the dealer and get the part online. Or find a different dealer.

Thin metal(exhaust strapping) drill and tap one hole on base. Then drill and tap hole on hoop. Use jb weld for added strength. If space on outside of hoop is limited, then two separate straps curved to the outside top and bottom.

Googling for parts resulted in 1 page of results and all of them are useless. This thing is literally too old to go anywhere other than a dealer and two new for anyone else to care.

I may be able to do something like this. Got plenty of steel strapping lying around, I could cut around the arm and reinforce with glue... I could only do one side of the arm, but it’s not under a ton of tension (or doesn’t need to be) because of the teeth so between that and glue it could work.

It probably won’t work but you could drill the bracket so you could wrap it with safety wire and tighten the wire to hold it together. Here seems to be a good wire set. .041 Safety wire is the answer to everything! https://www.amazon.com/BikeMaster-Safety-Pliers-Stainless-340488R/dp/B000WJ3LMS/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_sims?ie=UTF8
r another option would be to screw a small hinge over the break.

Both good ideas. Thanks!

Yeah, I was thinking making something like a splint or air cast. Either one, two or three sides.

I could just 3d-print a new part... I wonder how well those plastics would stand up

I think the safety wire has a better chance. I like the .040 size. Speak of the devil, I changed the rear wiper motor on my ‘07 uplander and of course 2 of 4 mounting posts for the press pins ripped out of the rear hatch panel. Safety wire comes to the rescue again! This was done with .020 wire.

I am wondering if something like this might be of use. You could fold one gripper end and safety wire it at the break. Then you could cut off another gripper end and safety wire it at the bolt end. also put a could of safety wires around the circumference. It might work, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015HQNC0Q?psc=1

I thought about that, there’s not enough room for any sort of band clamping without removing most of the material at the base of the arm.
Thanks anyways.

I didn’t explain very well. I suggest this narrower band
And I would wire tie the locking end like this to the bracket
And then I would drill out the other end of the bracket and replace the screw with a nut, bolt and two washers to lock down the other end like this.

Get a long enough bolt and you can add a third nut. then you could use the 2nd nut to lock the strap, the first one to tension the bracket and the third nut on the right to lock everything. You might also add safety wire in the middle to prevent the strap from pulling off.
